Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of the Emergency Management is to utilize the City work force, outside governmental agencies, businesses, and the public in order to prepare for, respond to, recover from, and in some instances mitigate the results of natural, technical and man-made disaster events. The City’s primary first response effort includes the Police, Fire, and Utilities Department.

The following suggestions have been developed by the Red Cross in cooperation with Lawrence County Office of Emergency Management and the City of Bedford.

- FEMA For Kids has information for children on how to prepare for an emergency and prevent disaster damage along with games, and stories.
- Disability Preparedness is a website with information to help people with and without disabilities prepare for an emergency. It provides information to family members of, and providers to, people with disabilities along with emergency planners and first responders.
